5 Favorite Activities To Do In April

favorite activities for April

There are so many fun activities to do during the month of April! The weather is (hopefully) getting warmer and you're able to get outside, there's Earth Day and April Fool's Day and so many other spring happenings to enjoy in your classroom. Here are a few of my favorite activities for April.

1. Close Reading

April close reading passages are perfect practice for students as you approach end-of-the-year assessments. There are fun April-themed passages that keep your students engaged and even an extension activity that will keep them wanting more!

The passages include topics about April Fools' Day, Earth Day, The Recycled Orchestra of Paraguay, and National Poetry Month. A wonderful book to accompany “The Recycled Orchestra of Paraguay” passage is “Ada's Violin,” the true story of Ada, a member of the orchestra.

2. Goodbye Winter, Hello Spring

Goodbye Winter, Hello Spring” is a favorite to share to celebrate the change of weather. The colors and illustrations are stunning and the descriptions of winter turning into spring are great conversation starters for you and your students.

You can find this book HERE.

3. We Are Water Protectors

The Water Protectors” is a beautiful book to share in honor of Earth Day. It is an inspiring call to action to bring attention to movements to protect the planet's water. Your students will be moved and inspired.

You can find this book HERE.

4. Earth Day Digital Read Aloud Books

“Earth! My First 4.54 Billion Years” and “My Friend Earth” are two of my favorite books to share in April, around Earth Day. They are both very different books, but share amazing information and illustrations that your students will love.

You can grab two free sets of activities to go along with these books!

5. Earth Day Foldable Book

I love this foldable book for Earth Day because it packs a lot of info without a lot of prep. Students can do short writing prompts on one sheet of paper that folds up into a small book. These are perfect for bell ringer activities or throughout the day. Students love sharing their ideas and you'll love the ease of the prep.

You can grab this foldable book (the digital version is included) HERE.

I hope you found some great activities and books to use throughout the month of April!
